Commonwealth Basin to Cave Ridge and return.

Jan. 10, 2016, 1:30 p.m. PST

Weather: Ascended through the murk (4400'->5150') to clear at the top of Cave Ridge (5250'). Winds light and variable. Air temp -6c.

Snowpack: HS 305cm. Surface hoar (SH) up to 1cm covering most aspects above the clouds (5100'), significantly less on southern exposure. 25cm of DF - 1mm diameter, followed by 125cm of 1mm RG to the bottom of the pit at 150cm. Resistance varied from F -> 4F -> 1F -> 4F -> 1F with no identifiable crusts or clearly defined interfaces. observed CTN

Area Description: Clearing at the top of Cave Ridge, northern aspect, 15deg incline.

Avalanches: No avalanches observed. Significant hardening/crust in the trees from tree bombs. Recent rollers up to 30cm below the rocks on S-SW aspects. No activity observed today. Snow surface remained cold/dry/crusty in the area. No running water on the rocks.
