travel along coldwater ridge to explore.
Dec. 30, 2015, 9 a.m. PST
Weather: clear, below freezing, strong east winds.
Snowpack: previous storm cycle powder in shaded/unaffected areas, wind deposition below ridges.
Area Description: Northwest slope, in lee of strong East Winds. 25 year old alder forest below. small area of open terrain below a scoured and open saddle/ridge area above.
Avalanches: Wind slab avalanche right around 3500ft. Triggered by leader on skin track. 6-8in crown across ~30ft At 2pm witnessed a large point source slide start near the top of Minnie Peak across valley from us. South facing slope, started high below peak but then entrained more snow and grew to run full 3000ft to valley floor through main terrain gully. Video of that event available if needed.
