Recreational Observation

West Slopes North - Canadian Border to Skagit River

Dec. 27, 2015, noon PST

Weather: light to moderate snow, moderate winds

Snowpack: unconsolidated snow in trees and sheltered areas, where winds had effected snow ranged from 1F-4F over F

Area Description: Mt Herman East face

Avalanches: ski cuts on steep terrain 35+ produced soft slabs in the upper 6-8inches of the snow pack which propagated throughout the steep terrain. also observed another party starting similar type slides in the same terrain. R2-D1.5 was the largest observed slide but the terrain was very small and my feeling is that in larger terrain the slides would have propagated further
