Recreational Observation

Normal way up/down Commonwealth. Multiple runs in Kendall trees and Kendall bowl

Dec. 26, 2015, 9 a.m. PST

Weather: Partly cloudy, low winds. Temps in upper 20s

Snowpack: 270cm deep. F to 4F for 150cm of recent storm snow. No observable change in snow grain size/type. ECT produced a crack at 20cm on 16 and another one at 35cm at 20. No propagation. Snowpack felt very right side up with the lower layers starting to consolidate under the weight of the new snow. Others in group stomped convexities with no reaction. Felt pretty stable...

Area Description: Above waterfall on PCT at ~4200'

Avalanches: While skiing some steeper sections ~45 degrees, the top 20cm sloughed off as a loose dry and ran until the angles slackened. Maybe D1 class
