Recreational Observation

Took the PCT from TH towards Commonwealth Basin. Breaking trail in 2-4' of unconsolidated snow, so at second switchback traversed across and down hillside to meet up with old trail, which was well-trodden. Old trail back to TH.

Dec. 27, 2015, 6:45 p.m. PST

Weather: Overcast. Snow started about 11am. Between at least 11am and 1pm it was snowing heavily.

Snowpack: Some signs of settlement around trees. Still lots of powdery unconsolidated snow. At lunch break near the creek (roughly North aspect, 3500') did a quick pit in the upper 4' of snow. Only found storm snow, same hardness all the way down. CTM test resulted in the block giving way after several elbow taps. not a clean break or fracture. No crusts or hard layers found, but if I had more time to dig farther down might have found something.
