Recreational Observation

Generally followed the run marked on maps as Brand X, below the Morning Glory bowl accessed via Northway Notch

Dec. 19, 2015, 9:30 a.m. PST

Snowpack: Variable depth (~15-20cm) soft storm snow over rain crust

Area Description: Brand X trees area of Northway (in bounds at Crystal). Northway was open for the day.

Avalanches: Kicked off a small ~50ft wide soft storm slab on a convex rollover descending on the first lap of the day that only ran a few dozen feet. I cut high and didn't get caught up in it. Another skier entered the very similar adjacent slope and got caught up in a second slide - wasn't carried far, but it knocked him down and covered him up to his waist. I didn't go and measure the crown but it looked to be about 20cm deep and the bed surface was the Thursday rain crust.
