Recreational Observation

Skinned up Lantham Lakes to North Face-Bowl of JIm Hill and skied out Henry Creek.

March 4, 2018, 4 p.m. PST

Weather: Cool temps, Overcast skies, Light Snow, Light to Moderate Winds from the West.

Snowpack: On West facing slopes, the 02/23 crust was variable and had mostly rounding facets above. It is located about 1 foot down on average. We saw no signs of instability in 35 degree terrain, however sharp snowpack assessment skills are needed to evaluate it. North facing slope had signs of previous windslabs that had bonded well and were rightside up above the early Feb crust. Ski quality was excellent on these slopes. On our descent we saw a D2 natural on steep east facing slopes that likely ran on the 02/23 crust.

Area Description: Jim Hill.

Avalanches: Natural D2 on Steep east facing slopes above Henry Creek that likely ran on the 02/23 crust. It was likely triggered by Loose-Wet activity from above.
