Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Tuesday

A quick moving weather system in NW flow aloft will quickly approach the region tonight, with light snow developing early Tuesday morning for Olympics and north/central WA Cascades. This system looks to arrive slightly faster than previous model runs indicated, so snowfall rates may approach moderate during the afternoon for areas north of Snoqualmie Pass.

Snowfall should quickly ramp up through the evening for all areas before the upper trough passes inland and digs over central Oregon turning steady snow to showers. A subtle warming trend should peak through the late evening for areas near and just south of a weak surface low, roughly from Stevens Pass and south.

NW flow later Tuesday night through Wednesday morning will provide some orographic enhancement to ramp up snow shower totals along the west slopes of the Cascades and Mt. Hood as well as ridge-crest westerly winds. The low level post-frontal flow looks favorable for dual convergence zones; one downwind of Vancouver Island and one off of the Olympics aimed more into the Crystal-Rainier area. 1-2 feet of snow through Wednesday looks plausible for the aforementioned areas. Showers will decrease Wednesday afternoon for the Washington Cascades as the flow turns more northerly.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Tuesday

Showers should taper off Wednesday night as shortwave ridging quickly moves toward the area. Thursday and Thursday night should be mostly dry and cool before a very similar looking weather system in NW flow approaches the area on Friday. If the current track and timing hold, light snow should spread to all areas on Friday and increase during the day.
