Weather Synopsis for Tuesday & Thursday
A weak low pressure system traversed across northern Oregon and into southeast Washington earlier today. This track was similar to Monday's low pressure system, but with the precipitation shield a bit further south. Light precipitation mainly affected the Mt. Hood region through mid-day with periods of light snow reaching northward into the central Washington Cascades. As the low passed east of the Cascades, an upper level trough is beginning to move over the Pacific Northwest with a cooling trend taking place in the afternoon. Lower stations have bumped up in response to daytime heating, but upper stations have begun to cool as of 1 PM. Sunbreaks are popping out especially in the northwest Cascades and Olympics.
Afternoon shower activity should be fairly light but a possible convergence zone initially focused near Snoqualmie should rotate toward Stevens Pass and may produce bands of moderate showers through the evening. Showers should taper down overnight.
A weak upper level low coming down in the northerly branch of the jet stream will help dig a cold upper level trough over the area on Wednesday. The air mass will be slightly unstable with a chance for a few heavier showers potentially containing graupel in the afternoon. It looks fairly cloudy for the Olympics and west slopes of the Cascades on Wednesday, but the east slopes of the Cascades may enjoy more sunbreaks before the convective clouds begin to fill in during the afternoon hours. Showers should again taper down overnight.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Thursday night through Thursday
A repetitive pattern of an upper level low coming down in northerly flow and digging off the Washington Coast over the next few days will keep the Pacific Northwest under the influence of a seasonally cool air mass with low snow levels and predominately afternoon mountain showers. The Olympics may be slightly cloudier due to their proximity to the upper low(s), but in general expect convective clouds to increase each afternoon with scattered mountain showers developing.
Extended Weather
Olympics, Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood
Partly cloudy in the overnight and morning hours becoming mostly cloudy with scattered mountain showers in the afternoon and early evening hours. More afternoon sunbreaks along the east slopes of the Cascades away from the crest. Cool.
