You may have noticed that over the last few months, more of NWAC's weather station data (also called telemetry) has been made available on our website via our new Data Portal http://www.nwac.us/data-portal/, under the Observations drop-down menu.
Where we are and where we're going...
We have always provided the last 10 days of observations in a text or raw data format and made raw archived observations available upon request. Our classic text files serve most folk's
The NWAC Data Portal will help make our data easier and more efficient to access. This project started a few years ago, but it really took off last summer and we continue to push this project forward this season. We need to thank you and our non-profit organization who funded this project outside of our core season. We hope that you will find the new ways to view and access our data helpful. Expect a few lingering bugs to be ironed out over the winter.
What I can I do with the Data Portal?
We have grouped our data loggers (an individual weather station) into like geographic and climate Areas. View or download a CSV file or a single weather parameter across an area with a custom time range. See the Mt. Rainier Area temperature example below that includes data loggers from Mt. Rainier National Park, Crystal, and Chinook Pass.
In the example below, data from two of the Stevens Pass stations (Schmidt Haus and
Last but certainly not least, you will hopefully see an array of new situational awareness tools available via the Data Portal. One simple, yet powerful table developed this Fall and is live this winter is the NWAC Accumulated Precipitation table for all of our precipitation sites. One can easily sort and track who's received the most (or least) precipitation over the last 1
Making our data more accessible is an exciting goal here at NWAC
1.) Not all instrumentation in our network is owned and operated by NWAC. WSDOT and to a lesser extent ski
2.) The data is not quality controlled on
2.) Communications with weather stations go down, and data
3.) Not all instrumentation and even data sampling is the same, NWAC is currently in the process of upgrading and standardizing equipment, budget permitting. We strive to have equipment and data sampling as standard as possible across our network.
5.) Yes, we want your feedback and suggestions! Please think of Data Portal as ongoing multi-season project. We hope to have past seasons uploaded to our database.
